Create Your First UE4SS Lua Mod

UE4SS Lua mods place their entry script inside a mod's Scripts directory. Begin with visible logging, consult the current hook API, and keep engine-object work on the appropriate thread before adding game behavior.

Prove the entry point

For a manually managed UE4SS Lua mod, create a named folder under the UE4SS Mods directory and put the entry script in Scripts/main.lua. The maintainer installation guide distinguishes the game executable directory from launcher wrappers; use the correct UE4SS working directory for your installation.

RunExample/
└── Scripts/
    └── main.lua

-- main.lua: an original entry-point check
print("[RunExample] script entry loaded")

Enable and observe

Use the enablement method supported by the installed UE4SS build and confirm that its current log contains your entry message. If UE4SS itself produces no fresh log, fix the framework installation before changing the script. This example only confirms execution; it does not modify game behavior.

Add a minimal behavior

Look up the exact function or object in the maintainer API. Hooks need the correct signature and valid object lifetime. Game-object work may need scheduling on the game thread; do not add a guessed hook name from an old snippet. Test the server and client roles that the release claims to support.

Prepare the package

For Pocketpair packaging, place the script directory in the package and reference it from a Lua InstallRule. Declare UE4SS and any other dependencies. Add a separate IsServer rule only when the files and behavior have been tested on that side.

Sources and verification

The official loader and maintainer documentation were retrieved on October 23, 2026. Examples are explanatory and have not been executed in Palworld by this project. The extended ID snapshot has no verified game-version label. Linked player data uses v1.0.3, while current official news includes v1.0.5.
